Feature: Cody is a convenience store clerk, a dog and a tax expert
Well folks, its that time of year again and I'm back again for a few weeks to run some popular tax questions I have answered from readers just like you. This week we start off a little slow, but tax time is already heating up so get those questions in and I'll help guide you through the tax season and hopefully get you on the right track to the biggest refund you can get!
Bobby from Wisconsin asks:
My taxes keep getting rejected because they say I have an incorrect social security number. I have checked with SSA and it is showing correct on their records. What gives, Cody? Please help!

Bobby, this usually happens when the government is actively working to erase your identity. part of the health care overhaul passed last year has a provision that includes wiping out 20% or more of the us population from government databases. this is being done in order to control future health care costs and medicare payments to people by simply denying their existence in the first place. seems to be working so far.. it happened to my brother in law...wait a second. I don't HAVE a brother in law...
Julia from Oklahoma asks:
Will Oklahoma allow e-file if I have a 5405 form?

Julia, instead of waiting in limbo you should take a risk and live dangerously. When you look back on your life when you're old and gray, don't you want to be able to say that you took the chance and e-filed even though you weren't sure about the 5405 form?
Frank from Texas asks:
I used a popular online software to help me with my taxes this year. I don't have any dependents, but I read something on the site that said I could still get a refund if I didn't make a lot this past year. I think I hit the dependent option because now it won't let me file without some form for dependents and I can't think of a child's name to put on the form so I can get my money.

Frank, the best choice is to just go back and restart your return in order to clear the error.. if you cannot resolve: just skip your taxes this year.. it's probably more trouble that it's worth.. just have a beer and don't worry about it until 2012..if anyone from the government comes knocking at your door, just tell them you are dead.
Mary from California asks:
I am getting this form on the error check. I didn't put in anywhere that I even adopted a child. It won't come off and I CAN'T delete the form from the homepage as it says there is no form. Please help!!

Congratulations. you are the lucky recipient of an orphaned 6 year old from Kenya. He will be arriving via UPS within the next four to six weeks.
That's it for this week, but keep those questions rolling in! As always, remember: It's Not What the Government Knows, It's What It Can Prove. Woof.
