Harlingen, TX -
With a strong desire to stay home from work last Monday, local Harlingen resident Melanie Covarubias formulated what will most likely go down in history as the worst excuse for missing work ever conceived.
"When I got up that morning, I just felt all out of it and decided to stay home," Covarubias said during a telephone interview. "So I called in and said that I couldn't make it because I was concerned that the wind would somehow cause me to lose control of my car on the drive to work. I didn't know what I was saying. I was really out of it."
Covarubias, who drives a 15 year old, modified and lifted 4x4 Geo Metro, had heard during the previous evening's weather forecast that strong winds were possible the following day. Unfortunately for her, the excuse was not well received. "My boss asked me if I was on drugs or something. I told him 'no', but he required me to go and get a drug test anyway," Covarubias said. "It was so uncool dude. For the reals. You don't even know!"
Thanks to the horrible excuse and lingering doubts about her sobriety, Covarubias is currently being closely watched by the human resource department for any potentially drug-crazed behavior. "It's been a nightmare. Totally. I'm at work and all like, 'what are you looking at?' And everyone is all like, 'nothing'. And then I'm all like, 'who are you to judge me!' I should have just said I was sick."
